“I want to take this opportunity to speak to my generation and Jane Campion. As far as I remember, ‘The Piano’ is the first movie I saw. When I asked my stepmother ‘What should I watch?’, she told ‘The Piano’. This film has defined my life, my career. Few films have determined me so much than ‘The Piano’ and be in front of you, on a stage… Your Piano made me want to write roles for women - beautiful women with soul and will and strength, not victims or objects.
A note for people my age, my generation. These are notes for the past few years in this crazy world. Despite people who stick to their tastes and dislike what you do, stay true to who you are. Let us hold on to our dreams, because we can change the world through our dreams, we can make people laugh, make them cry. We can change their thoughts, their minds. And changing their minds we can change the world. They are not only politicians and scientists who can change the world, but also artists. They have always been doing it. There is no limit to our ambition other than the ones we give ourselves and those that others give us. In short, I think everything is possible to one who dreams, dares, works and never gives up.” *
